A Beacon of the Outer Banks: The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is a historic landmark on the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina. Standing 162 feet tall, its distinctive red brick exterior makes it easily recognizable.
Construction began in 1873, and the lighthouse was first lit in 1875. It was built to fill a dangerous "dark spot" along the coast, aiding mariners in navigating the treacherous waters.
