The best surf fishing on the Outer Banks is down the beach from the ramps — Cape Point, the inlet spits, the empty stretches of Ocracoke. Getting there takes a 4x4 with an ORV permit, and getting there ready to fish takes a little more. That’s the rental we do:

- Rod racks available for every vehicle — rods ride up front, rigged
- Coolers available — one for bait, one for the catch and the drinks
- The Gladiator option — a Wrangler that fishes: the pickup bed swallows carts, chairs, and a full cooler spread without folding a seat
- Both permits on the windshield — Cape Hatteras ORV for the Point and Ocracoke, Currituck for the northern beaches if the bite is up there
- Recovery gear standard — the sand at the Point is the softest on the seashore, and everyone digs in eventually
- Open 7 days, 7 AM to 8 PM for reservation holders — early boats and dawn tides included
Where to fish, what’s biting, and how to rig — that’s our sister site’s territory: outerbankssurffishing.com covers the seashore beach by beach. What ramp to use is in our ramp guide, and the permit story is here.
