We’re OBX Jeep Rentals, run by Beach4x4 LLC, a family rental company in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. We rent beach-ready Jeep Wranglers, Jeep Gladiators, and 8-passenger 4x4 SUVs built for the southern beaches — the Cape Hatteras National Seashore ramps from Bodie Island to Hatteras Inlet, and across the ferry to Ocracoke. Every vehicle leaves our lot with the Cape Hatteras ORV permit (and the Corolla permit too) plus recovery gear already in it.

Our lot sits right on your way south. Coming down 158 toward NC-12? Pick up in Kill Devil Hills, leave your own car with us for free, air down, and drive the seashore all week.

Why rent from us for a southern trip

One vehicle covers everything. The on-island rental outfits are day-rental operations, and the Ocracoke rentals aren’t allowed to leave Ocracoke. Ours rides the ferry, runs every ramp on the seashore, and can swing north to Carova in the same week — both permits are already on the windshield.

Yes, you can take it on the ferry. The Hatteras–Ocracoke vehicle ferry is free, and our rentals are welcome aboard. More on that below.

Built for the trip, not the parking lot. Recovery gear in every vehicle, rod racks and coolers available, dogs of all sizes ride free.

Weekly pricing that makes sense. $1,338 flat for the week, any vehicle in the fleet. Day rates if that fits better.

If you’re already down in Avon or on Ocracoke and just need wheels for this afternoon, the small on-island shops are the practical pick. Our rentals are for the trip planned ahead — the fishing week, the family seashore run, the group that needs the vehicle from day one.

Rental Rates

We keep pricing simple, and the same rates apply to every vehicle in the fleet:

  • Weekly rental: $1,338 flat for the week — any 4x4 in the fleet
  • 3–6 day rental: $200 per day
  • 2-day rental: $225 per day
  • 1-day rental: $300 — non-refundable, and reservations open 2 days before your pickup date

Groups and Multiple Vehicles

This is where we can help in a way most rental companies can’t. If your whole crew is heading to the beach — a three-generation family week, a group of surf fishermen, a wedding party spread across several rental houses — one Jeep usually isn’t enough. Our 8-passenger Armada and QX80 SUVs let one driver take the entire family up the beach together, and because our weekly rate is a flat $1,338 for any vehicle, booking two or three 4x4s for the same week is simple to price out. Tell us your dates and how many seats you need, and we’ll set up the right combination of vehicles for your group.

  • Coolers, beach chairs, and fishing rod racks available for your trip
  • Beach driving is the whole point here. We encourage it — there’s no fine print prohibiting you from taking the vehicle on the sand, unlike the national rental chains

Where You Can Drive

Cape Hatteras National Seashore — from Bodie Island down through Rodanthe, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras village, the seashore has numbered ORV ramps onto the beach, including the road to Cape Point. Our ramp guide covers where each one takes you.

Ocracoke Island — take the free ferry from Hatteras village and keep driving. The same ORV permit covers Ocracoke’s beaches, and the crossing is about 70 minutes.

Corolla and Carova — the northern 4x4 beaches and the wild horses. The Currituck permit is on the vehicle too, so a north-and-south week is one rental, not two.

How Booking Works

  1. Pick your dates and reserve your vehicle
  2. Email proof of full-coverage personal auto insurance to bret@beach4x4.com
  3. Pick up at our lot at 2101 Colington Rd in Kill Devil Hills — we’re open 7 days a week, 7 AM to 8 PM for reservation holders
  4. Leave your car with us for free and head for the sand with the permits and gear already in the vehicle

Cancellation Policy

Cancel seven or more days before your pickup date for a full refund. Cancellations inside seven days are subject to a $225 fee. For dangerous weather, full refunds are issued on multi-day rentals — just contact us. One-day rentals are non-refundable.
